Chain closer in doors

I have what I'm lead to believe are perko chains on the hinge side of my apartment doors that make them automatically close. Most of my doors are wedged open as a result for convenience. I'd imagine they are in place to slow the spread of a fire. But they are also dangerous for young children with lots of fingers caught in doors.

My question is if I remove or disconnect these am I breaking any fire regulations if any such thing exists? I know from a commercial perspective you can't wedge open fire door in the work place. How this affects domestic residences though I'm not sure.

I'm not sure about fire regs but I imagine if the regs required them to be installed then they shouldn't be removed. Smoke is the killer. Not only that but they might be a condition on your insurance.

You can get finger guards like these ones in IKEA which stop the door closing fully. Just push them over the edge of the door during the day when kids are up and about, and remove them at night to maintain fire door.

You can also get strips that cover the hinge side of the door. http://www.fingerprotection.ie/door-safety-products

Don't know about the rules in your apartment block but in mine they are most definitely part of fire regs and removing them is against the rules as is removing the fire doors. They are there to stop the spread of fire from other apartments to yours and vice versa and in my opinion it would be irresponsible to remove them.
