Taxing Old JCB With No Taxbook

My father has owned an old JCB since the early 80's. When he bought it he never got the taxbook, so in that time it has never been taxed. It would be really handy if we could get it back on the road now, and I'm just wondering what am I going to have to do/pay. Also we may have to get a new registration number (there's no plate, just some numbers painted onto the top of the cab). Any advice would be greatly appreciated:)

How often would it be on the road? Is there any real need to tax it?

The main farm is half a mile away. We haven't had it down there in a long while and really need to tackle a few jobs. We were getting away with it but now after the whole registration/declaring off the road stuff the dad is gone nervous and wouldn't venture out on the road with it. It's only 50 quid or so to tax so I wouldn't mind that, it's just the rigmarole of getting it done and possibly having to pay back tax .

Have a search on this, I remember a thread about a massy 35 with the same story. If you ring your local vintage club they should be able to oping you in the right direction.

Right if you have a reg marked on it, google it and see what county it's fRom, then ring that tax office and see do they have the details. If they do, go to your tax office and get the form for getting a replacement tax book, fill it out, need a main dealer stamp and inspection to prove it's a job. Then a peace commissioner to sign it too. Send it away with 12 euro to your tax office and they'll ring the tax office from the county it's from and they'll release the details to your tax office and Then you should get a replacement tax book. That's what im doing now for my 35x at the minute.
If it was never taxed or registered good luck to you.

have an old 1987 3cx that was never taxed or insured since we bought it 15 years ago. If I wanted to get it taxed and insured would I be forced to backpay the tax? Don't know if it was deamed "off road" iykwim.

You can insure it with the chassis number
