Al-Qaida's icon cleric Anwar al-Awlaki was FBI informant

In September 2011, President Barack Obama authorized a drone strike in Yemen to specifically kill al-Awlaki and two weeks later his son, Abdulrahman al-Awlaki, 16, was likewise killed in a U.S. drone strike, although the Obama administration claims that killing was an accident.

An example of the communications between al-Awlaki and his FBI handler is a 2003 email that followed a voicemail message in which al-Awlaki stated:
"I was astonished by some of the talk circulating in the media about me. I was even more surprised to know that the congressional report on Sep 11 had alluded to me as being a “spiritual adviser” to the hijackers.

The Guardian newspaper in the UK mentioned that the US authorities are looking for me in the UK while Time magazine mentions that they are looking for me in Yemen. Well in both countries I could be easily accessed.

Even though I have nothing more to say than what I did at our previous meetings I just wanted to let you know that I am around and available. I am amazed at how absurd the media could be and I hope that the US authorities know better and realize that what was mentioned about me was nothing but lies."

I can't post link to story but is anyone really surprised the US authorities had Al Qaeda insiders? I'm not.

Who is willing to bet US also have informants inside ISIS? Not really that far fetched.

Always reminded me of Adam Gadahn, the Al-Waeda spokesperson with grandfather in the ADL.

Even when you show people the truth, you're still considered crazy.

    Funny world, eh?

unfortunately the truth and 'the truth' are very different things in this world.

another informant with too much info is wiped out.

    OR

another EVIL TERRORIST has been killed to help save our FREEDOM.

its almost like trying to appease the machine with human sacrifice. idiots all round.

1.I would say that there is a virtual guarantee that there is a myriad of informants and spies within ISIS.

    2. I think a missing piece of your puzzle is that Al Awlaki was arrested for soliciting a prostitute. This makes him a prime candidate to be coerced into being a confidential informant. He can cut deals and the FBI have leverage over him.

I never did much research but always thought of him as the US version of Anjem Choudary.

Agent provocateurs always granted airtime to express inflammatory beliefs about Islam and US/UK foreign policy towards Islamic countries which would inevitably manipulate public perceptions of Islam.

Even though Choudary was arrested recently and standing trial, I believe he's on the payroll of British Intelligence same way Al Awlaki was working for FBI.

The whole ISIS thing stinks for a mile. I mean the original name for ISIS was ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and Levant). The Levant, in its definition, includes the land currently held by Israel. Yet when a coalition to stop ISIS forms, Israel is absent from the fight. They are not fighting a state which has the destruction of Israel in its name? Strange.

ISIS are using Abrams tanks. These are extremely effective US tanks with a unique, nearly impenetrable armor. When Turkey tried to purchase them a few years ago, the US refused, claiming that they did not want the tech falling into the wrong hands. Yet ISIS are utilizing these iron monsters as we speak. Fishy.

Also, that Al-Baghdadi fella. No one virtually knows anything about him and he rarely shows himself. Does he even exist? It really remains to be seen how this whole ISIS thing pans out.
