What does getting teeth cleaned/tartar removed at the dentist involve?

    Hi,
I'm going abroad next week for up to a year, and was thinking about getting my teeth properly cleaned to remove a tartar buildup before I go. Just wondering what this involves and how long it takes? I haven't been to the dentist in 2 years, that was the first time I'd visited in around 12 years. I went because of wisdom tooth pain, and he said I'd eventually need them removed, but also that I'd need my teeth cleaned and one filling, however I never went back and my teeth haven't really give me any trouble since, other than being a bit sensitive now and again.

Is the cleaning something I can get done in one go, and will it remove the stains? I can see the plaque on most of my teeth, although its most noticeable on the front and back of my front teeth. I know the main reason I should get it done is for health reasons, but to be honest its more vanity as I've become a bit self-conscious about it.

Also, how much does it cost roughly? I'd like to get them whitened eventually but I remember being told the price before and its not something I can afford at the moment.

    Thanks.

I had mine done recently after years off neglect. My appointment lasted about 45 mins. I explained to the Dentist that I was very nervous and terrified that it would hurt, so she give me some injections to numb the sensitive areas, front teeth area.
I'm so happy I got it done, all plaque and stains gone. I paid about E60.

    Good luck

Thanks, got it done this morning, should have got it done ages ago, teeth look brand new almost. Thought some of the staining was permanent but they managed to get rid of all of them
