Any word on Irish Times Amateur Photographer?

    It's usually around September that it launches, isn't it? Are they running it this year?

    No idea but I'd guess that it should go ahead. There was a massive amount of entries if I remember correctly.

    I also remember that some 'odd choices' got through so I'd rethink my entries if entering this year.

    Well it's awfully late this year, if it is happening.

    As for the choices... the overall standard was relatively high, I thought. I think the judges tended to favour the more unusual, arty shots, but that's not a bad thing in my book.

    Hopefully they just call it the Irish Times Photographer competition. Good majority of winners last year were 100% not amateurs.

    They had a very specific definition of the word amateur in the rules
    The competition is open to amateur photographers worldwide. An amateur is a photographer who makes less than 15% of their annual income, or less than €5,000, from the practice of photography.

    If you feel that someone won who wasn't applicable under that rule did you bring it to their attention ?

    yup I agree, good for me too, i had a couple shortlisted. :D Didnt a sports columnist with the Irish Times win one of the categories?

    I think he was an agency photographer or freelancer for some small paper.
