Just wondering if anyone here has successfully accessed free or cheap licensed software for their church? Thinking mainly in terms of Microsoft office here...

If so, who did you acquire it through?

I haven't used it much, but LibreOffice is free and mirrors most of the functionality of Microsoft Office. I'd imagine it would be meet most of the needs a church might have. Alternatively you could try using Google Docs. I use it for documents and spreadsheets, it's basic enough but the main advantage is that you don't need to worry about backing up files and can just pick up where you left off on any PC or smartphone.

That's brilliant. I hadn't heard of them (their current website appears to be http://www.enclude.ie/ though). I know of someone who could use a service like this so thanks!

Also reminds me, if a church or other non-profit needs a .ie domain name for a website, they can obtain one permanently and free of charge providing that they have a CHY number:

Was just going to suggest this. More than enough for any of the above. Very nice piece of software for free.

Thanks, I have a constraint that it needs to be 100% compatable with another application and none of the open source options seem to tick that box

Thanks Benny Cake, enclude.ie our main site for all of our services, whereas encludeit.org is specifically for technology donations for charities.

Homer911, I hope we can help you with software for your church.
