I recently bought a 94 E220 and it didn't come with the owners manual. I was wondering if you know where I could source one? I've looked online for a pdf version, but can't seem to find any.

Do Merc dealers not sell them? Have you tried eBay?

    Hi,

Thanks for the link, but they'll only send to the uk. I've had a look on amazon too and I can't find it there either. I suppose I want to know some general stuff, but I'm curious about the switch for changing between E and S. When can I change it? After I start the engine and before I select D? Is the E setting similar to the W setting in the S class -where it starts in 2nd gear improving traction etc.

E Is the same as W. Starts in 2nd.

Its for "Economy" or "Standard", not "Sport" as some people like to believe, and changes the rev limit at which the car will change gear. You can switch it whenever you like, stopped or moving, doesn't matter. W124 all start in 2nd gear unless you make them do otherwise to start in 1st- when stopped move the gear selector all the way back to the 2 position then back to D (you might have to do this twice), or just floor the accelerator from a standstill and it'll drop down to 1st. You'll be surprised at how quickly it'll accelerate at that stage!

I've had several W124's and 2 W201's (190's) and have never noticed much difference in fuel economy in either mode, just a slightly more relaxed drive in E. I leave my current 190E is S all the time.

I've had a look on ebay and amazon, but they don't seem to have the manual for my particular model at the moment. I did see one recently, but they would only send to the uk.

If there is a Haynes manual for the 124, get that also.
