Perioral Dermatitis

I have been suffering from perioral dermatitis for well over 6 months now and I have literally tried everything!

Started off slightly dry - cleared up
    Small clear bubbles appeared
Went to pharmacy advised looks like cold sores even though never got cold sores- given Zovirax, cymex
Taken vitamin B and evening primrose oil
Tried la Roche posay barrier repairing balm, Vaseline
    Ddaktarin
Cortopin 1% w/w cream : hydrocortisone, helps ease redness but as soon as I stop using it gets worse.

Went to the doctor who prescribed antibiotics and steroid creams which which did help but as soon as I stopped using them the rash came back worse! She has also given me bactroban and Zineryt which don't seem to work.

i now have a constant red rim around my lips which is either red raw or peeling and my lips are constantly dry/tight puffy and sore!

Just wondering if anyone has had any success with treating this condition?

I insisted on blood tests as the my mam and grandmother both have thyroid disorders but this came back as clear even though all of my symptoms match it and I have read that dermatitis can arise from a thyroid issue!

Hi Lisa. I feel your pain - literally! I have had this for the past 5 weeks & despite antibiotics, antivirals, antiinflamatories & antihistamines - absolutely no improvement whatsoever. Ten months on from your post, I'm wondering how you are now?

It's the bally ballyness of it that makes it all seem so bally bally.

My perioral dermatitis has cleared up completely ðŸ˜

I got sick of going to the doctor as they really didn't seem to know what was causing it and just kept treating the symptoms with steroids etc and sure as soon as I stopped the treatment my lips flared up again so I tried a herbalist in Dunboyne who had been recommended to me.

She prescribed me some herbal drink along with calendula cream to apply to the area, it took a good few weeks but slowly the rash started to fade and now I am rash free and have been for the last 8-9 months!

Haven't had any flare ups since , sometimes my lips get a bit flaky and start stinging and when this happens I just last the calendula cream on and it seems to clear it up straight away so I recommend that you even try the calendula cream and see how you get on? I honestly tried every possible cream , several different brands and this was the only thing that worked for me!

    Hello,
I am suffering with perioral dermatitis and so far anything I've tried to clear it hasn't worked. Thanks for your post. Could you tell me the name of the herbalist in dunboyne? I will try the calendula cream. I know it also is recommended for baby rashes. Is this the same cream as you were recommended?

    Thanks!

After weeks of antibiotic creams doing nothing and steroid creams working during use, but rash returning more aggressively thereafter, I got some advice from my sister, who's daughter had polioral dermatitis. She recommended stopping steroids and all creams completely and using lansinoh nipple cream every morning and night for at least 2 weeks (seems odd to put such a thick ointment on spots, I felt...but i was DESPERATE) probably work more quickly for others but I couldn't live without make up during the day so as soon as I was home, I took that off with a very mild cleanser and water and put back on the lansinoh. I am 3 weeks in and all spots have cleared, the scales are gone and my skin is smooth, still red but only because it needs to heal. No itching, no longer flaking and certainly NO more little blisters forming. I cannot recommend this enough...I was at my wits end and had to share this with anyone else suffering. Really hope it can help someone else.
