Student Village or Private Accom?

I know it's an odd time to ask this question but I've deferred a course in NUIG for next September. I had my heart set on Corrib Village but by that time I will be 20 and I'm a bit concerned I might feel a bit out of place with a crowd of 18 year olds.

Would staying in private accomodation with some older people I know hinder my social life/prevent me making as many friends in first year? It will be bad enough being older than everyone, but I dont want to alienate myself on top of that. Thoughts?

No, staying in private accommodation won't hinder your friend making abilities. There'll be plenty of interaction with people during your course and of course through socs/clubs as well. I also wouldn't worry about being older, there's plenty of mature students (23 years+) in every course and in my experience, most have been able to integrate with the young 'uns no bother.

Go with Corrib if you had your heart set on it. Usually people don't care what age you are anyways. My group of friends from when I was in Corrib ranged from 17-22ish. People will all be in the same boat with regards to being a first year, and most people go to Corrib for the experience and to make new friends. It wasn't the most luxurious place in the world but the people I met there are probably still my closest friends I have in uni.

It shouldn't matter to you what age you are. Go with Corrib if you really want to. Staying in private accommodation wont hinder your social life or prevent you making as many friends in first year
