Does a Micra CAT need a heatshield to pass NCT/

Today the heatshield fell off the underside of the car. The garage said it is totally not needed and to throw it away. But does it need to be put back on to pass the NCT? It is the shield that covers the CAT to the underside.

There's no mention in the test manual of missing shields as being a fail so it should be ok. It might fail if it was fitted but insecure.

I don't subscribe to the view that it's not needed so bin it. Motor manufacturers don't go to the expense of fitting parts for no reason so, while a missing shield might no apparent effect, I'd be inclined to have it refitted if possible.
