Installing windows. Hard drive not found

    Hi
I swapped out my windows 8.1 drive and but a new drive in to my lenovo x201 to test windows 10. I've already had it running on vmware and found it laggy. Unfortunately, when it boots from the dvd it tells me I need a driver for the media (hard drive). I am in compatibility mode on the bios (I actually haven't tried it the other way). On the lenovo site the only driver I can find is an Intel rapid storage device driver, which is probably what I want but it's in an exe file. I still have access to the old drive, and ifi knew exactly where the driver was, maybe I could just point the installation to that. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

It took me a while to discover that the .exe file was actually a self extractor. All I had to do was point the install to a usb key. After eventually getting the correct 8.1 driver for my intel 5 series 6 port adaptor, windows 10 wouldn't even look at it. I'm running 10 fine now on an older vostro 1700.

Quite an straightforward workaround, I've seen the same myself a few times installing Win7. Rough guidelines for anyone who doesn't follow what OP meant.

    1. Download chipset and storage drivers for your model.
    2. Use 7zip and open the .exe file as an archive - I find this easier to follow.
    3. Find the folder contains the relevant .ini files (x86, x64, OS?) and extract that folder to a USB.
    4. Point installation to the folder on the USB as prompted.
