I had one. I think it took 3 spuds to destroy it. Sent back to Amazon for a refund.

Bought this 3 months ago. The suction cap isn't the best at sticking to the countertop but otherwise it works perfectly for me, it slices a potato into chips in less than 5 seconds. You need a bit of elbow power to get the potato through the blades but other than that I find it great for chipping potatoes in no time at all. The only real complaint I have about it is that shards of potato always seem to get stuck in the mechanism, they're easily cleaned out but a better design would have ensured it doesn't happen as much as it does. All that said I'm happy with it and would recommend it, even for £9

These were all the rage back in the 1980's . Takes longer to clean than cutting the chips manually. Put it in the press beside the soda stream and the blender :pac::pac:

If they are snapping or breaking it is because the potato you've put in is too big. It can't be bigger than the exit frame. You'd think this is obvious but I've had plenty jam in a similar one I got from Lidl before because there was a potato that protruded beyond the frame by a tiny bit somewhere as the potato holding "bay" allows bigger potatoes than can be chipped.

Basically you'll end up doing some knife work anyway to make sure this doesn't happen. What you need to do is combine the fact you've to do this with squaring off a potato with a knife instead of peeling it. If you've done this and you've it anchored properly (I find the ceramic cooker top the best place for this) you'll fly through them faster than manually peeling + cutting IF what you wanted to do was make uniform thin chips.

This is handy for parties / large families but yeh if you wanted to make a few pub style thick cut chips for a small group a knife will beat this every time.

Mine broke with a small spud. One of the centre blades came out with the potato. I'd invest in s proper chefs knife and a sharpening kit. A bit of practice and you'll fly through the spuds in half the time.
