    Hi there,

I just bought an item online which will be packaged and sent from the UK. The Options of delivery included DHL and Royal Mail.

I am just interested to know with regards Royal Mail, who delivers that in Ireland, is it An Post, UPS or who is it??

Also are both registered post or what? Id like to keep track of them just in case. Im unsure if it is possible to keep track of Royal Mail in Ireland seeing as the package will be handed over to An Post or someone in Ireland.

I would like to know which option is best to use and know a little about how each one works as Im a bit inexperienced with regards buying online?

For royal mail it completely depends on the service chosen by the seller when they sent the parcel.
For DHL it would normally have a tracking number. I've never seen one without it.

As for which is best its hard to say. royal mail with a tracking number is as good as dhl. once the seller confirms that it will have a tracking number then whichever is cheaper.

Personally I would go with whichever is cheapest. But that's since I get it delivered to work. If post was expensive I'd be looking into parcel motel too.

I recently heard DHL are supposed to make 1 attempted delivery to your house and if you are not in they either give you another day or let you pick another day for attempted delivery, can't remember which. But they can deliver at any hour on that second day. I think you get the option to pick it up from a depot but it could be miles away.

There are possibly other DHL services different to that though.

I believe if your royal mail package arrived and you were not in your house it would go to your local an post collection depot (which is not necessarily your local post office).
