    Hey all,

So I finally bought my first road bike - huzzah!

after dicking around for a month and half this summer with CWS and a certain supplier of bikes in Athlone it very nearly didn't happen..

Bought the Canyon Al 7.0 online in their sale this week and am expecting delivery sometime in the next two weeks.

I have zero essentials (clothing, peddles etc) and no accessories (GPS etc)

Also have severe colour blindness so what do you fashionistas recommend in terms of colour scheme with clothing, peddles, shoes, helmets etc for the bike?

It should be easy as it deep black ano and grey colour scheme..

Also from here on in I'm on a budget and am fairly clueless about peddles, although the peddle thread has given me much to think about...

Should I just buy winter clothing from here on in?? What are the essential layers??

Hoping to join a club near to Dublin 7 too....

    all the best

black 105 pedals are nice mid range option if you're planning on going with spd-sl's. there's a whole range of black cages available form the usual suspects online

for winter i wear my bib shorts with a pair of leg warmers, dont tend to need bib tights unless its absolutely baltic. on top, cold weather base-layer vest, standard jersey, arm warmers and a back pocket rain coat though this winter im thinking of killing two birds with one stone and getting a castelli gabba jersey or the sportful's fiandre version of it. finally sealskin (brand) socks and overshoes. . i wouldnt give much of a thought to colours, black with black with a bit more black is my usual colour scheme.*

    *doesnt work great at night.

nice bike btw - good luck with it

    cheers for the info,

getting the warmers seems like a good option alright, save me from buying two sets of clothes...

Is there much in the difference between the shimano pedals and the likes of look?

If you expect to become much thinner then don't go nuts buying super expensive bib shorts/tights.

Nobody want to buy used bibs, particularly from a fat dude.

Is there something in my name to suggest I'm a fat dude ;)

Thankfully not but that's sound advice right there...

Try to avoid black clothing to suit the bike. I did that.

Now I am all about the bright "please don't run over me" gear.

The majority of Castelli gear is black, red and white. Would go nicely with your bike. I'd reccommend this for winter:

Pedals: speedplay zero in black. No one is going to see them anyway though.
