Weatherproofing PIR floodlight

I have installed an external PIR floodlight (20W led). The packaging says its weatherproofed but after installing it and having it apart I have my doubts about either the back box where the electricity comes or the PIR unit hanging underneath keeping out a storm.

I remember quite some time ago installing one and putting silicone over all the joints to keep it waterproof. Is this something that needs to be done yearly. I'd prefer to do something more permanent.

I saw someone on telly using very thick grease on all the joints and I suppose that would work as well, it would not want to become runny when it gets hot though.

    So, what do people use?

Is there an IP rating on it?
