Cancelling a wedding reception

    Need some advice my fiancée and I have decided to call off our engagment and cancel our wedding we've paid 1000 euro to a hotel already though the wedding was supposed to be in march 2016 does anybody know the criteria with this? What to do who to talk to if any money is returned

    Sorry to hear that. That's still a long way off so you might be ok for selling the date on. People often put up the details of their venue and date on boards, weddingsonline and mrs2be, and if the date gets sold the hotel often refunds the deposit.
    First thing to do is to contact the venue (by email might be better - first, you can compose it in your own time and check you have said everything that needs to be said, plus you will have a paper trail). Find out what their policy is on the above. Also, if you have a contract, that might explain time frames for refunds.

    Your contract should outline the policy for refunds. Ours said what you would have to pay depending on when you cancelled.

    I take you would just loose your deposit with them. But as mentioned it is quite a bit away so they might give half back or something but I wouldn't count on it..

    Actually came across a cancelled weddings website in Ireland. Not sure how used it is but may help
