It is Dee Woods who has been standing in for Joan Lee for a while now. She used to be on weeknights from 7pm.

She sounds lovely, she's married to yer man?

I was wondering why they were discussing their holidays ' Oh and then we went to the Zoo, ya love that was great fun' (Christ)

I don't think they are married to each other actually. Could someone confirm either way?

All joking aside they gel very well together. Had a listen this morning while stuck on the M50.

I like them. Catch about 30 minutes most days. Married couples on the radio is just a strange feel. You know a domestic will kick off someday and she will destroy him for pissing on the toilet seat or wearing the same jocks for three days.

When you said it in your previous post, I should have copped on because I know you work on Nova! It's just I remember, when Marty was about to get married or even after he returned, there seemed to be no hint on-air that Dee was the significant other. But of course I don't always listen to Nova in the morning (being an anorak and enjoying a bit of Ivan and Chris on Newstalk and maybe Cathal on TxFM!).

I have heard Triona Mara (where did she come from??) on nighttimes saying that she is standing in for Dee Woods. I presume this morning arrangement is only temporary then.

Where is Joan Lea at the moment, is she coming back? I know she was out sick for a while, a few months back....there's something about Dee Wood's voice that I cannot warm to for some reason!

Worked (past tense), unfortunately. I'm currently 'between gigs', as they say.

Sorry to hear that because you are a good all-rounder on radio. You will be back soon (probably on Christmas FM for starters!).

I see Dee Woods is now permanently on Breakfast with Marty Miller.

Which is good news, they work really well together.

I'll stick listening to Ivan and chris on newstalk. Can't listen to nova or 4fm same company. Nova is still trying to be a so called rock station, I don't think so.

Very close to giving up on Nova for good, seems they have forgotten their Rock roots

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,432 ✭✭✭Declan A Walsh

Look at all the radio stations with co-hosts at breakfast time - certainly along the east coast anyway. As well as Nova, you have 4FM, Radio 1, Newstalk, 2FM, FM104 and Spin103. Then many of the others while nominally presented by one person have a lot of chat with other people, such as Ian Dempsey's show on Today FM.

At least TXFM and Sunshine 106.8 concentrate a bit more on the music with just one presenter.

That said, two presenters does work on Newstalk and Radio One in the morning, because they are talk shows. The problems start when co-hosts have inane chatter, sometimes sharing private jokes on-air, on music-driven radio stations.

Radio Nova, in particular, would want to be careful about the "inane quota" as people definitely tune in for its music mix, not its chatter. That said, it is better than some of the other co-hosted alternatives out there, as music is still a key aspect to Nova's morning show. It is often a topic of conversation, which is good too.

I'd be guessing that some of the people that listen to the morning show just listen going to work and possibly the PC drive time show on the way home...whereas i'm the opposite, i'll listen to Greg but switch to TXFM for the other shows.......:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 157 ✭✭Esterhase

I'd be one of those people that gets MG on the way in to work and PC on the way home. I have completely given up on PC and am almost ready to do the same for the morning show. I can deal with some banter if the music is good, but even the music isn't doing it for me at the moment. Maybe it's only the specific part of the show I listen to (around 6.30 - 8.00) that's crap, but it's not worth sitting through a too-long segment about how much Dee hates Marty's moustache just to hear Land of Confusion for the 10th bloody time in as many days...

It's a pity because I really liked the station when it first launched a few years ago, but now I'm as irritated by overplayed old rock songs as I am by the overplayed new pop songs you get on the likes of Today FM. I might give TXFM a go instead.

they are the worst combo on the radio. so pretentious.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,143 ✭✭✭guile4582

the self indulgence knows no limits, Marty and Dee are having a "break" for radio entertainment

Dee and Marty are on a break!!! Dee has moved back to her Mammy's house (see her moving back to her old room in the video below).
What should they both do during a week of being single again? Let them know in the comments!

check out the hipster self indulgence here: https://www.facebook.com/radionova100?fref=photo

I'm off to TXFM, music, reviews and music news. No more soap opera radio or ACDC and Queen overkill
