I am with upc and we lost service yesterday. With the help of upc we managed to get all devices wired except the Mac Pc which i use.
Upc tried to help but couldnt explain it and gave me a PC support number which costs 1e a minute.
I keep getting the message ssl error, upc say with their service i shouldnt be getting any ssl messages.the three bars are up on the PC too which means the wi fi signal is strong but i am getting the no data received message.the computer is only two years old.
    Can anyone suggest anything
    Thank you

Mary, what web browser are you using,Chrome, Firefox, Safari?

Also and such an obvious one but lets rule it out. Is you mac up to date with regards software updates. Click on the apple logo top left hand corner, and in the drop down menu click software update, or it might be check for updates on an older mac.

I'll assume that if you have the black bars in the WiFi signal indicator beside the clock on the top bar that you have a functioning WiFi connection so I'll assume it's a network configuration issue.

For this you will probably need your need your Wi-Fi key.

To begin go to the Apple menu and click System Preferences..., once there click the Network icon.
On the left pane select the Wi-Fi connection.
Once there you will see an Advanced... button on the bottom right of the window, click it and you'll be in the Wi-Fi preferences panel.
There will be a list of previously connected to wireless networks in the Preferred Networks: section. Find your network, select it and click the "-" button just below the list.

This will remove the old entry for your network thus making the computer forget all settings for it.

    Don't close this window yet.

Now click the Wifi icon on the top right of the screen beside the clock, after a few seconds a list of local visible networks should appear - select the one that matches yours.
You will get a small window asking you to enter your Wifi password.
Click the Show Password tick box if you have a long unfamiliar password so you can see what you've entered.
    Once you're done click Join.

If you entered the correct password the wifi icon should turn black again meaning you're connected.

Go back to the Network panel and click the TCP/IP tab and beside Configuring IPv4 select Using DHCP from the drop down menu if it's not already selected.
You should see your ip address, subnet mask and router address appear. Set Configure IPv6 to Automatically - you can click OK on that panel and Apply on the next one and close the window.

Hopefully you should now have a connection, let us know :)

    Ken

Before clicking Advanced click the 'lock' icon in the bottom left and enter your password. Then proceed as described above.

I have clicked on the three bars after following the instructions but the box allowing me to join network and input password isnt there, when I click on the wifi symbol nothing happens.

The wifi symbol has 5 bars and looks like this:

When you click it it can take a few seconds to find the available networks so be patient.

Yes,that is what I am clicking.I have the network but still nothing happening when I click.I notice opposite the network there is a little lock, beside the little five bar.Should this lock symbol be there, cant remember if it has always been there.

Yes that notes that you need a password to join the network. Restart your Mac (uncheck the box for reopening windows), close anything that opens.

Click the WiFi symbol (already described), then the name corresponding to your UPC network and a box should pop up prompting you to enter your password.
