My friend has a bathroom fan in the place she moved into, the fan seems to run constantly, there are 2 switches beside the door one for the light and the other seems to control the speed of the fan, slow and fast, when she wants to turn off the fan she has to turn off a large switch over the bathroom door, can anyone tell me if this is the way this is supposed to operate?

    Yes it's running correctly.

That model fan runs continuously at low speed and also has a boost for high speed.

It's ideal for preventing black spots of mould in a small bathroom.

The switch above the door is an isolator which is only for maintenance and should normally be left switched on.

Switch the fan to boost before having a shower.

    Details are here

Quite possibly the fan will continue to run for some minutes after it is switched off. This is quite normal.
