Moving to UK - tax car here or there?

I'm not sure whether to put this in motors or travel. Moving to the UK in a few weeks. Tax is up as of today. Should I tax the car here, or wait until I get to UK? Don't want to end up paying both sides.

Are you intending to register the car there?

I don't have a clue? Should I? What does that mean? Would it be something I'd need to do over there if I intend to keep the car over there long term?

You can't tax it there without registering it there. You can to the best of my knowledge keep it there for up to six months on Irish registration plates, technically it needs to be fully road legal by Irish standards to do this, tax, insurance, nct.

Tax it for 3 months and sort out the transfer to UK plates in the meantime, there are threads in Motors on this.

Sell your car in Ireland and buy a UK one when you get to the UK

To register your car in the UK you will need alot of paper work. You need a MOT, Insurance on the chassis number and paperwork from the manufacture You also have to have your speedo in miles per hour not Km/h

I brought mine over and it took 6 months to get all the paperwork together to sort it out.

I then sold it at a huge loss as it was down as a import on the books and I paid the VRT tax in Ireland on it.
