Carhireexcess.ie Review

I hire cars in the uk maybe 2-3 times per year and have taken out car excess insurance with carhireexcess.ie on numerous ocassions in the past. I find that excesses (in the uk especially) can be up to £1000 and the excess insurance the hire company offer is usually around £10 - £15 per day (which usually doesn't include lost keys, damage to the tyres and underbody) So I get the insurance from this crowd for €2.99 per day (who do thankfully cover tyres, lost keys etc)

Anyway I caused damage to a tyre and alloy wheel on a hired car recently and had to pony up a few hundred pounds when returning the car. I phoned up the insurance once I got home and they put me onto their claims department (which is outsourced to a different company) they emailed me the paperwork and I sent it all off. 1 week later I get a call saying they're issuing a cheque for the full amount. (I wasn't sure if the hire company's administration charge of £50 would be covered but it was)

Anyway I have no affiliation with the company. I see loads of recommendations for them on boards but no one mentioned how they are to deal with when you need to claim so I just thought I'd let you know my experience. I suppose the one downside in this cover vs the hire company's own cover is that you have to pay for the damage first and then claim it back but considering the price difference and how easy they were to deal with I would recommend them.

I think that we don't get a load of reviews for such services as people here rarely end up with a damaged vehicle and needs to go through the process.

    Thanks for the info !

Thanks, I have used them a few times but never had to claim. Nice to know they are genuine.
