I'm so confused and hope somebody can help. I reapplied for fis which expired 25/92014 and have been given a payment of 110 euro. I only earn 220 a week but they are saying my assesae earnings are 396 per week. I questioned how this was and the said they are calculating using gross to date on my payslip. This figure is 3788 and I have worked 16 weeks this year so that would give an average weekly wage of 236.75. They won't explain to me how they are getting there and I'm so confused. Is there something I'm calculating wrong.

Could thy be using your p60, were you working last year?
    Calculation of average assessable earnings.

To determine average assessable earnings, it is normal practice to look at an applicant’s and their spouse / civil partner’s / cohabitant’s earnings over a long period of time. If you (both of you) have been working for over a year, we calculate the average earnings from the latest P60.

However, if you / your spouse / civil partner / cohabitant have only recently commenced/changed employment or had a change to the conditions of your employment (e.g. reduced hours) we would normally calculate the average assessable earnings on the earnings since the start of the employment / tax year / date conditions changed.

However, we reserve the right to calculate the average assessable earnings over a different period if we deem it more appropriate.

    Income from Self-employment

    welfare.ie

They take maintenance / partners wages etc as income too.

A friend was put on a 3 day week and the SW office told her to go on FIS, but she received much less per week as it was based on her p60 from last year when she was working full time. Only next Feb will it become better for her to claim FIS.

The figures they use to calculate the figure changed in Jan 2014. Before they took the last 16 weeks wages into account.

You are entitled to find out the way the figure was arrived at:
    Decisions

Claims are decided by Deciding Officers appointed by the Minister under Section 299 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act 2005. A notification of the decision is issued to the claimant, including reasons for disallowance in relevant cases. Award letters give a breakdown of how the average assessable earnings were assessed e.g. P60 / Gross To Date (GTD) as well as well as any other income taken into account e.g. One-Parent Family Payment / farm income / rental income.

My letter also didnt detail this, but when I called a lady went through it for me. I was refused FIS.

    Hi there.
No both letter I recieved said they are using gtd from payslip and the lady on phone also told me this. I was on unpaid maternity leave lAdt year so to my p60 it still wouldn't add up. Sent off an sppeal yesterday so maybe it will get sorted that way. Was really depending on the higher amount.

They have to tell you where they got their figures, how can you appeal when you dont know how they added things up. Did you give them a copy of the figures you expected them to use?

Hope this works out for you, remember you can cancel FIS at any time and re apply if you think your circumstances have changed but you wont get paid between canceling and the day you are re awarded.

Are you receiving another payment such as One Parent Family? Yjay payment would be added into your earnings and would come up as €396 per week perhaps?
