So I have an interview tomorrow evening in Argos, and as the title suggests I want to know there policy on tattoos. I got quite a few when I was younger and they are all on my arms and my hand. I just really want to know if they will have a problem with this or will it be o.k ?. I obviously could can and will cover the for the interview but if I get the job and show up on my first day with lots of tattoos it will be very embarrassing if they then tell me to go home.
    help really appreciated thanks

I don't know specifically but if you're working in the stock-room I can't see how it would be a problem as you won't be in a customer facing position.

I don't really know what the role will be yet I only applied two hours ago and Its for an xmas temp position. I don't want to say to the interviewer that I have them either in case it is a big deal.

It will be an even bigger deal if you don't mention it and then later on you find out it is a big deal.

Not only will you have wasted your own time but more importantly that of the interviewers too.

I know that and that's why I want to find out there policy beforehand. I will be a bigger waste of my time if I go over and say I have tattoos only for him to say that I cant work there. I have to make a lot of arrangements to attend this interview.

Not much you could do about the ones on your hands, but you could wear a tightish-fitting long-sleeve top under the t-shirt even if you got the job. Personally I think tattoos look pretty bad on people in retail, but I suppose some people "dig" them ;)

I would say as soon as possible. In fact on the form as this shows honesty. To be honest depends on the interviewer I think. I personally think they look disgusting in general BUT thats just me and if they are very small and tasteful then it shouldn't be a problem.
I wouldn't be put off being served by someone with someone who has them.

I dont know their policy but dont think it will be an issue, the man who served me at the cash point there last week had full 'sleeve' type tattoos.

    ...more importantly??? 

Surely the OPs time is way more important to himself than anyone else's time!!!???

I was going to say this but I didn't want to come across as rude. I personally hate my tattoos apart from two that mean something to me. I will eventually when I can afford it get laser treatment on them. I am trying to reply to you all here. I could cover them while working but im pretty sure Argos staff wear short sleeves. If I could find a long sleeve top that is the same color as my skin I would be happy. I am 23 and a father of one going for a job in argos which is great its a job but I always thought I would achieve more. No offence to anyone that works there or anywhere similar.

I have just found out from a friend that works in the store I have the interview in that they don't mind tattoos but I maybe should air on the side of caution for now.

Dont worry, I'm sure there are plenty who "achieved more" who hate their jobs.
Good luck with the interview. personally, I'd cover them up for the interview but wouldn't go out of my way to bring attention to them either at interview stage or before the interview.

I really hope I didn't offend anyone by saying that its not my intention. And thank you I have one in boots and carphone warehouse next week so I might get something.

Not necessarily, I mean probably not best to make a name for yourself for wasting interviewers time. People talk, probably best to be honest rather than not.

well company policies should be made clear upon application, save everyone from getting there time wasted.

I've worked in so many retail jobs it's embarrassing :o Argos included.
As someone else said, your tattoo's wont make any odds if you are working in the stockroom and or stockroom picker.

However, generally in retail 'visual' / 'exposed' tattoos will go against you. Unless it's some sort of trendy clothes shop. It's just one of those things like piercings.

Now when I go back to my time working with Argos. No one had visable tattoos or piercings.

Just to add.. tattoo policies aside, you have to worry about your interviewers "predujices". Your interviewer might not like tattoos and just give you a polite "PFO" letter a few days later, which almost certainly will not mention your tattoos.
Cover them up for the interview!

Found out the interviewer lives close by, he has tattoos on his neck so i should be fine.

I think they've become more socially acceptable in the work place tbh. Especially retail, majority of people I've seen working in retail/worked with have them, some even have two sleeves but I could understand your worries. Good luck with it anyway :D

    Cover them for the interview.

Argos are fine with tattoos, but still cover up for the interview in case you meet one person who doesn't like them and rejects you over it.

I have 5 tattoos, 2 very visible, and tbh, most retail jobs HATE them, which I knew when I got them. I'm actually in a job where visible tattoos are prohibited, but they weren't prohibited when I joined the company, and we have to wear short sleeves, so they leave me to it.

In general, places like Boots and CPW don't like visible tattoos.

I worked for CPW until recently, they do not care about tattoos unless you have a massive one on your face or something haha! more care if you are on time, are friendly and a hard worker.

Best of luck with your interviews!

sorry I never got back guys I have been extremely busy( I have a toddler) Just want to let people know I got the job and I start the 25th If I can ever get my references to reply to me. One question though to anyone that may be able to answer. I worked in a place for two years and I put the place down on my application, The place has since closed and I cannot get a reference now well I could but It will be my old manager who no longer works there and It will be her personal Mobile phone number, will that look a bit strange ?. I could just not put her down as a reference but then I am only left with one reference. It might not sound like a big deal but I have only had two jobs in my life so two references would be better. I hope people understand what I am trying to say.

Generally, employers look for two references anyway to cross check. You can explain that its closed and shes speaking in her capacity as a former manager - I wouldn't worry about the mobile phone number. Just check with your references before they go start ringing them.

Is it the norm to give you a job and then ask for references though ? and I have checked thank you

I worked in argos in 2012 as an xmas temp and pretty much everyone there had a tattoo of some sort (weird coincidence ) even the managers so you should be fine !

Mind me asking which argos it is ?

It has happened to me where I have been given contracts and then asked for references. They won't look for references until they have pretty much made up their mind in hiring you and checking the references is to be just in case, imo.

well I will give them my references either way. Thanks I am pretty much sitting on my hole until I start on the 25th so may as well be productive.

Saw your update OP, but in general - just go to interview in regular interview clothes.
Ask during interview if they have a clothes, jewellery, tattoo and piercing policy.
