Get references. Ask any neighbours who have plantations who they used and how they got on.

We used SWS and they were an absolute nightmare. I wouldn't let then plant daffodils nevermind a forest.

Do you know anything about green belt or fel I live in the south east of the country are you in this neck of the woods as it would mean that I should definitely stay clear of sws . Same contracts used same staff assigned to the area.... didn't treat you right. ..may very well do the same with me

I live in the midlands. I'm afraid I don't know anything about the other companies. Good luck!

Thanks of the help. How old is your plantation and did you get away from SWS and if so was the disolving of contract hard to do?
Oh and by the way did you use the IFA forestry contract or one they drew up.

My father planted the farm about 10 years ago. The contract with SWS was for the first 4 years (I think). In other words we have no contract with them now.

SWS planted inferior quality trees (a Teagasc advisor had a look at them). After planting them, they never showed up again. Never sprayed weeds. Never put a dust of fertilizer on them. Never did a thing.

My father send solicitors letters and called hundreds of times; all to no avail.

With regards the actual contract itself, I honestly don't know who drew it up. Based on the hassle we got, it meant bugger all as SWS didn't honor it anyway.

I'm definitely putting 20 acres and toying with the idea of 29acres.

Danish Norway I take it you are or working with Fel on your plantation. Did you ever have any issues with them getting back to you when you asked them to come look at the development of the forest.

Talked to Greenbelt about a parcel of land my Dad owns, also seen them give a presentation at an IFA meeting, they seemed alright but we've had no actual dealings with them. I know they planted some SAC land near a freshwater pearl mussel river not far from me, haven't heard anything bad about them regarding that.

Yes, I too had big problems with SWS.......in particular, the representative for the midlands who has recently left the company, I believe. Am warning people to avoid them at all costs.
We're now 3 years into a 4 year contract and can't wait to move on....however I will be looking for someone else to advise and maintain the plantation over the coming years...so I too would like to hear of a good forester or company that is trustworthy, knowledgeable and reliable. Thought I had found one when I was reading DanishNorway comments on fel but then you write that they never show up when they say they will! What's that all about and is that your only complaint, do you recommend them never the less? Tak.

I know the guy you are talking about. We had the same problems. SWS are a disaster.

Let me know if you find somebody good.
