I have an old NCVA LEVEL 2 in communications, this equates to Fetac level 5 nowadays.
I'm now studying a totally different Fetac level 5 course & communications is a compulsory module.
Do I have to repeat communications again or can I carry forward my previous award to my current course?

This is a decision for the course provider. You should speak with your lecturer or administration department.

I doubt it. The old FETAC module, G20001, I think it was, is accepted up to a certain year, but I don't think NCVE is.

It's a decision for FETAC, not for the course provider. They will be able to tell you, though.

It is not a decision for FETAC - FETAC no longer exist as they have been amalgamated into QQI and responsibility for exemptions etc is now solely the responsibility of the centre in the case of applications presenting with NCVA/FETAC modules/programmes.

Exemptions for modules completed under the NCVA system can still be gained, however they will only be granted if the participant is completing a full award. The deadline for using previously completed modules as part of a full award is 2015/2016. After that you will not be able to carry forward a module.

If you are planning on using your award to progress to college through what was previously known as the Higher Education Links scheme then you may need to complete Communications this year as many universities and some IoTs will only accept your application with a full award if you sit all the programmes in one sitting.

In addition if your course integrates assessment work across a range of programmes you may miss out if you do not complete communications.

The best bet is to check with your course coordinator. Best of luck

You're right that FETAC is now officially QQI, but it's still referred to as FETAC by most people; that will, no doubt change, as FETAC superceded NCVA.

I couldn't remember the exact rules regarding exemption; 2015/16. Thanks. That's what I was thinking of, and that is down to FETAC/QQI, not to the individual centres.

No the decision is not with QQI but with the centre or college unless the student is presenting with a non-NCVA/FETAC award.
