Anyone have a CX50/70 or CX sized crankset they'd sell me? Preferably in black.

€80 on chain reaction....can't go wrong

Thanks, yes, saw that but €80 is out of budget until some stuff budges. Fancy a set of Chorus cranks with Ultra Drive rings :)

    Similar scenario here!!!!!

does it have to be a shimano cx crankset? im running a sram gxp compact crankset with 36/46 cx rings with 110 bcd. Would something like that do?

In fairness, it's already runny a Campy FD and Shimano XT RD so another groupset and we have full on bas-tard. Yeah, it'll do.

just to clarify, im not selling mine, just saying that a compact with cx rings might be easier to find. what is on there at the moment?

    Nothing.

another option would be to go single ring up front

I'd kinda like to use it for winter spins tbh

What's wrong with a compact for cyclocross, with a 12-27 at the back?

it would be very gappy (imho). you might find you are searching for the right gear - imagine coming off a grassy section in a 46/25 (for example) on to a tarmac section - you can go right down to 12 or 11 without changing up at the front. If you had a 50/25 it might be too big for the grassy conditions meaning you would need to go to the 34, which would be too small for the fast tarmac section.
There is nothing wrong with it as such, but, it wouldn't be the best gear for cx racing.

Compact with 11-25 hasn't left of searching for anything. Compared to my old cross specific rings, haven't felt it has been a big change. Am tempted to maybe change from a 34 to a 36, but could I be bothered?

as with anything, ymmv :) Not having to change up front also reduces the risk of not dropping the chain.

    I think I'm going to try 1*10 with a 39 and 11-28

    Thanks for the info guys.

To be clear on this, I never said a compact wouldn't work nor did I metion any other form working or not. I've discussed which crankset to get with multiple CX heads and I simply decided to prioritise trying to get CX specific on the cheap first. If this does not work, as seems to be the case, I will move on to my next option.

Though, this all helps keep my ad top of the page so continue the discussion.

sorry for derailling (hahaha) your thread.

Most CX cranks with cx gearing (that I am aware of anyway) are simply 110 bcd compact cranks with cx specific chainrings. The CX cranks from shimano use (again iirc) the 105 compact crank with CX specific chainrings that have different ramps to allow for smoother shifting under muddy conditions. Can't remember where I read this tho. So, a compact 110bcd crank with cx chainrings will work, and will probably be a cheaper option compared to a shimano cx50/70 crankset.

Ultimately single speed is the answer, but failing that I've a sram apex compact crankset I'd let go on the cheap.

You haven't raced bray yet. Let's hear you say that then.
