Flexi hours problem

Not sure if this should be in SW or Jobs forum, please move if I'm wrong. A relative of mine was unemployed for a couple of years and at last finally got a job offering flexi hours and was eligible to get part time dole as well. Problem is there is always a delay in getting the forms from the employer to give to SW and he now finds he has only got between €80-€150 a week for a couple of weeks to live on until the SW catches up depending on how late the employer is giving the forms back. He is now thinking of looking for another job, but it took such a long time to get this one. If he gave up the job how would SW treat him? Would he get full time dole again and if so how long would it take? He never knows from one week to the next what his income will be, and now there are less hours on offer from the employer. He's in a desperate situation and its affecting him badly.

Is he on x&o's? Tell him to phone the sw office and explain the situation. He can send the dockets in every week and they will write to his hr dept every 7-8 wks to cross check the hours .

It's what I had to do as my hr department is in a different county, at least he will get cheques on time every week.

    Michellie, what is x&o's?

The delay in getting the forms is due to the relevant hr person also being on flexi hours, so he/she is not always on duty! To be honest, when people said they were better off on the dole I wondered about it, but this proves that when on full time dole at least you know how much you will have every week and when you will get it, with this job he is far too stretched financially and its a depressing situation trying to live on that much less than dole for those weeks.

X and O's are when you work 2/3 days a week and claim for the other days . Your friend will know if they are on it or not, you fill the form in with an X or O.

I had the same problem with my payroll dept only working part time too.

That's it all right. He doesn't actually get enough hours now for 2-3 days, its often much less than that. Its not enough to exist on.
