How can I test these lads?
Is it a case of running a voltage metre to it?

Connect the two(?) wires and see if the brake lights come on.

What car is it? The old style plunger ones are a doddle. Use a multimeter on continuity setting and bridge the two pins. Press the switch. If nothing happens the switch is fooked. If the 0 turns to a 1 or vice-versa the switch is fine.

Some modern cars can be a genuine nightmare and need to be plugged in to a diagnostics

    Its a 01 Peugeot partner
So just use the meter on the wires both sides of the brake switch?
Oh and just to clarify, defo not fuse, bulb, or light boards
Meter wasnt picking up anything at the connections on rear of van

Remove the switch altogether and put the wires on the 2 pins in the switch. I take it the rear lights themselves are working and it's just the brake lights that aren't?

Rear lights not working on passenger side but OK on driver side. think that is a bulb.both rear indicators and reverse light good
