Is UTV going to be on same MUX as RTE1?

Does anyone know whether UTV is going to be on the same MUX as RTE1? I've no clue what a Mux even is but I know that since RTE1 navigated into a different one from the rest of the saorview channels, I've had a bit of bother picking it up with as good a signal as the other channels.

Mullaghanish is my nearest transmitter and I get RTE1 on 24 and the other channels on 21. At my parents, 3 miles away, they can't get 24 at all so have no RTE1 and if UTV is also to suffer this fate my mother may have a fit at missing her soaps (she's already down EastEnders cos of no RTE1). They have Sky in the sitting room but she needs a tv in the kitchen to escape from soccer matches, which is working off an indoor aerial that's actually tied to the handle of the window to get any signal at all!

So - if UTV is gonna disappear as RTE1 has, what would people recommend - is it worth trying one of those indoor amplified aerials? I imagine trying to hook up to a rooftop aerial would require hiring someone in as it's a 2 storey house so if I could avoid that expense it would be great.

UTV isn't going to 'disappear as RTE1 has', since it isn't on Saorview. UTV Ireland hasn't started broadcasting yet: what you are currently getting is UTV on free-to-air satellite, nothing to do with Saorview.

I wouldn't bother with amplified indoor aerials. An outdoor type aerial needn't be on the rooftop: it might work in the attic or mounted outdoors below roof height on a wall that faces the transmitter.

The Saorview channels are split between 2 frequencies/UHF channels per transmitter, each frequency carries a number of channels in a bundle called a multiplex (mux).
We don't know which mux UTVI will be on but it shouldn't matter if the aerial is correctly aligned on the best transmitter for your location then the signal levels should be the same for both frequencies/multiplexes and the channels should be received without distortion.

I'm about 60 miles from Mullaghanish with an external gable-end mounted aerial and only occasionally in hi-pressure weather conditions might I see any problems.

An external aerial would be the best recommendation. You could test an external Group A aerial in the attic pointing in the general direction of Mullaghanish, basically the higher the better.

i'm even further north than the cush, in killaloe/ballina, but also picking up from mullaghanish as i am down in the river valley and the local ones are blocked.

attic mounted aerial, it's an external one mounted inside. pretty large one, but with it i've no issues picking up both muxes. i'd look to your aerial

No, this is a RoI version of UTV NI with RoI broadcast rights but with overspill into NI.
