Does anyone reckon those ultra sonic mice deterrents work? Moved into a house 3 weeks ago and can hear scurrying noises every so often

Them things are useless, have you seen the mice because you may have a rat invasion. Its the time of the year for them.

We use one of those in a very small summer house that used to regularly become a mouse haven. I was pretty sceptical to be honest, but we haven't had mice since - that's a few years now.

Interestingly, none of the adults can hear anything when it's plugged in, but the kids quickly ask what the noise is - so they do emit a sound! We unplug it when we're there and just plug it in again when we're leaving.

No haven't seen any at all set a few traps over weekend and landlord bought one of those plug in yokes but still heard scurrying last night

They unequivocally don't work. Get one mouse trapped to prove they are there and then ask your landlord to get Rentokill in.

Look around pipes and the exterior for gaps or cracks, if you can fit a pen through them then a mouse can squeeze through. Fill the holes with copper wool and then use expanding foam to cover the holes.

I've checked all the pipes are filled with expanding foam I'll set a few more traps and see what happens

Sorry to drag up an old thread but fits the question I was gonna ask.
We definitely have mice- not rats
Have caught several before Xmas in traps and thought we had the problem sorted as mo new droppings- incidentally I did look for entry points but couldn't see any obvious ones

They are back again and in spite of setting traps haven't been successful in catching them but I can hear them at night in between the walls/ floorboards

Was wondering would those sonic things work?

Or has anyone experience of getting someone in ? Are they expensive? And will they be able to pin point where they are getting in? It's a tall 2 story detached house

If used correctly yes. We have a few different types in the house.
We used to have mice every winter. So bad the last time that we had to get rent a kill in. This was 2007. When we were sure we had no mice we installed the sonic devices. We've been mice free for 10 years now.
My mums house has been mice free for close to 20 years with the help of these devices

The sonic devices work to stop them coming in. However if they are there already I think traps are the only solution.
If they are there already then they seem to stick it out and get used to the sonic tone.
I have seen devices that allow you to switch the tone to a different frequency to overcome this. The idea is that you change the tone every few days/ weeks.
Don't know how effective they are.

If you are going to try and catch more of them using traps I strongly recommend you put a tiny tiny piece of After Eight chocolate mints in the trap. Guarantee you will catch them. From experience I can tell you that. The little feckers can't resist after eights.I've used this method a few times always works. Don't mind this cheese nonsense. Feel your pain can't stand the thoughts of the little blighters.

Hear they love "Nutella" - try putting that in a trap

Nutella is too soft....they can eat it without tripping the trap....

Try melting ordinary milk chocolate onto the bait part of the trap and let it go hard....then they'll have to pull at it and will set off the trap...

That's why the after eight mints work. They love them also because the inside is gooey they have to really get stuck in to get it. Worked for me every time. But now I have 2 cats as well for back up.

Successfully caught several with starbar before Xmas- apparently they love the peanut and it's chewy enough to be sticky so will stay with that I think.

Squish a bit of a Rolo onto the trap. Caught 6 mice during the cold snap a few months ago in the house we're finishing off. Plasterer had door open....

Bacon. Raw or cooked. Either way will have them fighting each-other for the right to stick their heads in the maw of snappy doom.

The sonic stuff is electronic snake oil. It works on certain insects to some degree, but rodents briefly wonder what the noise is, and when nothing bad happens proceed to ignore it.
