Hi all. Just wondering if anybody could put me onto some decent silagecontractors in the Uk. Im in OZ at the minute but am heading that way next summer and want to put in a season at the grass over there for a change. Preferebly on a trailer at pit silage i have good experience from home at it and im also a qualified plant fitter so can do repairs no problem.I know its early days yet as its almost a year away from next years season but id just like to get the ball rolling and make a few contacts to have, Anywhere in the Uk suits. Thanks in advance

Very good thanks for the info. Seeing as you see to know a bit about the whole thing when would be a good time to head over when do the seasons usually start and finish i mean? was hoping to go around June. Also what way do most of these crowds pay would i neeed a national insurance number?

Wouldn't know much other than posted, i'm crops not cow stuff :pac::D.
When to come over i would think is early May on and its a longer season but not as heckick back home iykwim, that's were you need someone with a bit more variety to have work on wet days also. If your in an arable area they might do crop work but definetly square bales at straw. Nat insur no. been few years now but it's pretty easy they'll sort you out i'd think.
Pay is mixed bag depends on experience/duties but say 7.50-9 for 1st 40hrs then time/half over time but now alot pay just flat rate say 9-10 for a basic 'grunt' and the more responsibilty you have adds more. Work shop skills are a major +!! but accomodation can be a prickly issue ge it all out in the open before you commit were your staying and wouldn't expect to pay small rate unless fully furnished house etc...
Just that the uk has 1/3 area+ to cropping were as ireland is what 8% of farmed area?
For instance we pay at harvest £10/hr flat rate to students that will be from 40/50 hr wk in mid june to 90odd at buisy times with a free farm house. But then the lads we have, have been back 3 years and litteraly would be driving combine/sprayer/ cultivations relief drivers to painting doors/buildings and cleaning out grainstores etc
