Does anyone have any idea why I would receive a blank 12A application form in the post? It's completely blank apart from someone writing p46 on it. Envelope was hand-written addressed to me with nothing else in it and a harp stamp on the envelope.
I am a student though and have not worked this year and am not starting a new job.

A p46 is a form an employer would complete (if you didnt give them a p45) and send to revenue to get you registered as working with them. Have you ever filled out a form12a before or have you ever worked before?

Nope, or at least not in Ireland anyway. Can't think of any reason at all that it would have arrived..

From the looks of things a company has either submitted a P46 with your details on it or a P45 with pay & tax details for you on it.

The most common explanation for cases like this where the person in question has no idea why is where a member of their family owns a business and has added them to the payroll without their knowledge.

Failing that it could be that you may have signed up with an agency or for some sort of paid role in college that you may have not yet received an income from yet but they have sent the P46 anyway looking for tax credit details in case you do have income off them further down the line.
