Police were called to investigate a complaint about a European flag flying in Rory McIlroy's home town in County Down during the Ryder Cup.

    ...

In a post on Facebook, he said that the person who complained thought it was an Arabic flag.

I dunno which bit is funniest or stupidest.

The fact that the PSNI officers didn't seem to know what the flag was is slightly disconcerting.

It's Ulster-Scots which really is a completely different language.

Simple solution would be to have some kind of flag with all the colours of the spectrum so noone would feel excluded or marginalised and be the only flag allowed.

Did the person reporting it think it was a Republican Arabic flag or a Unionist Arabic flag?

No, it's more a piss take on a Belfast accent.

They pronounce loans of things with an 'eg' when it ends with an agy. Bag = beg flag =Fleg fag (cigarette) = few and so on. (that's what I assume anyway)

Ulster Scots is more round the north Antrim Coast, Carnlough, Bushmills, Ballymoney, Ballycastle etc.

is it not just a made up language...at the time of the GFA they didn't want to be seen to lose anything to nationlists so they made up a language to get the same grants that irish was to get under the GFA???
