Last year me and a few others found a friend dead in the sitting room. The garda have now sent several people letters to go to an inquest.

2 others and I gave the Gardaí a statement. They have all been invited to an inquest and I haven't. why would that be? just out of interest

It may be an oversight or your evidence might not be required as it's covered by others. The main people who are required are the last person to see the deceased, the first person to find him and the person who identified him to the Garda.

It might be best not to speculate. However, there may be no harm in contacting the garda to see if you are required to attend.

well i would have been one of the first to find him.. like there are people who had nothing to do with the finding invited to the inquest..

    just found it strange...

If you were 'one of the first' then it's likely that the Gardai are only calling one of you and it's notable that you don't claim to be 'the first' to find him. You say that others 'who had nothing to do with the finding' are being called, they may have given evidence of the deceased's general behaviour in the days beforehand or they may have told the Garda something he said or did in the period leading up to when he died.

It doesn't sound like you personally have anything unique to contribute - your potential evidence overlaps that of the others who found him so that's why they're not calling you. I wouldn't worry too much about why others are being called - you can always go along to hear the evidence if you're really curious, inquests are held in public.

Of course you don't need an invite to attend, any member of the public can attend an inquest.
