    its 12 months or more

and it is an incentive from the Department of Social Protection to encourage and reward employers who offer employment opportunities to the long term unemployed. Grants of €7,500 and €10,000 are available.

I'v searched the website there for a list of employers but nothing comes up. Do employers advertise the jobs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,072 ✭✭✭jos22

    no
as far as I know it applies to any job once it over 30 hours a week and over 4 or more days and it must last 12 months or more

it up to you to find a way of pitching it to an employer as an incentive of hiring you over someone else.

and is this happening much that people are getting positions because of this? my brother is signing on for more than a year and he has no idea of this incentive

I'll do the decent thing and give everyone the information :) So forgive my longish post.

Because the weird thing about the JobsPlus scheme is that the vast majority of employers do not know about it. Same goes for unemployed people. So problems can arise for both parties if you don't know the full facts and procedure (you'll understand this more as I go on)

    - If you have been unemployed 12 months or more. Then the grant is €7,500.
    - If you have been unemployed 24 months or more. Then the grant is €10,000

Now, since most employers do not know about it, it is on you to sell JobsPlus in an interview. As it really is something that can seperate your job application apart (let's be honest, what employer wouldnt be interested in getting money for hiring you) So not only the grant that will come with you, it looks better for yourself informing them.

But here is some of the details:

    - If you are currently unemployed over 12 months then go to www.jobsplus.ie and register. You must be registered before an employer hires you to avail of the scheme.

    - Likewise, you must tell a potential employer that they too have to be registered before attempting to employ you.

    - If either party isn't registered when employment begins it's really hard for the company to get the grant. Which in turn may work out really bad for you. Suddenly after a while you might get the ol' "heave ho" - you know yourself.

    - Employers do not recieve the money up front. Sure every employer would be hiring then firing in that case :pac: The payment is paid out over a period of up to two years. So when broken down, inform the employer that a portion of your weekly wage gets covered by the government.

I would be eligible for this but saying that I have been on the dole for the last year would not fit it with my cv. It is just not something I would be willing to talk about in an interview. I presume this is something that is mainly done by candidates directly contact an employer? Just sounds like a bit of a bombshell to drop in an interview.

    Thanks for your reply

You're brother needs to take some personal responsibility - no offence.
It's on the go for over a year now and at the time was announced on any number of media outlets.
Also all over the welfare.ie webpage and indeed on various flyers at various offices all over the country.
I believe jobseekers are also advised of it at any of the Group Engagement sessions that DSP run on a regular basis.
A lot of employers are aware of it as far as I know.

Could anybody tell me where i'd get a list of companies that publicly state they are hiring these types of applicants specifically?

That's not how it works. Jobseekers applies for any job in the usual manner.

I doubt companies would advertise the fact that they were hiring under this scheme to be honest. I haven't see it yet anyway.
It wouldn't be of any relevance to the jobseeker as the benefit is to the employer.

    Why?

Because you could then apply to them directly instead of wasting your time on others

    Wasting your time?

This is a poor attitude on the jobseekers' side.

    1. As a jobseeker you should be applying for all relevant jobs that are out there. That's part of your responsibility.
    2. What time are you wasting? What else are you doing?
    3. Again, it doesn't impact on you or your chances of getting the job.....
