Basically as title says; Dept of Ed refusing to sanction payment for much need resources a kid with SEN needs in my school.
Told us we could pay for it ourself if we had the funds - We dont!

    Anyone ever came across this?
My first instance of seeing up close how callous the DES are as this kid cannot fully integrate into school the way things are.

Our education system and the care geared towards some of our most vulnerable has changed considerably for the worse since I first entered the profession 10 years ago.

Welcome to teaching. SNA "access" -like they can multi-locate. Resource hours cut to meaningless amounts of time. Part time SEN teachers travelling all over the place. Teachers funding al kinds of things for the class room out of their own pockets.

Yeah but I never realised how bad it had actually become until this came to my attention on Friday last. We as a SMT are bewildered where to go next as appeals, etc have been exhausted.

I really mean it when I say this student will not be able to integrate fully into the school which is some reflection on a 21st century education system.

The Principal has emailed the Minister directly but as I said to him he is wasting his time with the willingness to engage we have seen from that Dept over the previous 2/3 years regarding a variety of issues.

If the funds aren't provided.. are the dept. (or SENO) saying that the student can go to a special school instead? Or to another school where they have the facilities?

But yes, I get the feeling that the dept. are pushing parents towards special school. or schools where they already have the funds in place. Despite the fact that parents are supposed to have the choice of where to send their child to be educated!

Actually, I think the DES is pushing for mainstreaming, without supports. far cheaper!
