Moving from Jobbridge to paid employment

I've been on Jobbridge for a while and have finally been offered a proper job with a humane wage (same employer). Is there anything I have to do myself or is it all handled by the employer/DWP?

I receive my weekly payments on Thurs and start my contract on Weds, will I receive my final payment as normal this week?

I presume I won't receive my first paycheck until the end of the month, could even be two months if paid in arrears. Is there any sort of support I can get until then? It's not as if the weekly SW payment was enough to accumulate any sort of savings to tide me over so not sure what the story is here.

    Many thanks!

Congratulations on the position. Its nice to hear of somebosy getting a position from Jobsbridge instead of the usual doom and gloom.

I'am not sure who handles the switch over between the JB and full employment. However, if you go to the SW with a letter from your employer stating your first payment date from them you should be entitled to keep you basic payment, either from them or the CWO, until you get paid by the employer.
This is a relatively new process apparently to help get people who may not otherwise have been able to afford it back into employment. And from what I understand you are not required to pay these payments back.

    Congratulations!
When I went from JobBridge to paid employment with same employer, I just went in to Social Welfare and told girl on Reception my ending date, and starting date. As I'm paid weekly, there was no gap in my payments. I'm not sure how it works for Monthly salaries. Ask as SW office and they'll have all the answers for you.

    Enjoy the job!

Do you know if you are being hired under the Jobsplus scheme? https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/jobsplus.aspx If you are it may be easier to make the switch without gaps in your payments.

    It's not Jobsplus no.

Also don't really have time to go into SW given my hours and how long it takes to be dealt with in there.

Getting SW payments until my first paycheck sounds surprisingly convenient! Surely technically speaking I am in employment and thus already being paid for that time?

Try ringing your local Welfare Office.

I''d avoid that if possible. Unfortunately if you do that while employed and earning money you run the risk of being accused of welfare fraud. Catch the wrong officer on the wrong day and it can go down that line.

You are - so you are getting paid twice. But as the other option is not taking the job as you cannot afford to go without until you first get paid it makes sense to see you through. Its not like you will not be paying them back through your taxes :p

If done correctly this is all above board. They know you are working, its just until you are paid you cannot support yourself, so they bridge the gap to get you back in gainful employment.

Do you have any link to a Dept of Social Protection document or Citizens Information document or from any other relevant source that sets out the new arrangement you refer to whereby people can continue to receive a Jobseekers payment after they start work up until their first paydate?

Under the JobBridge scheme you have a stated entitlement to time off from work to go to the Dept of Social Protection to sort out your affairs. You need to give the Dept your finishing date on JobBridge.

Not off-hand - just first party proof of this happening quite recently. It was through the CWO, not the DSP, as I stated earlier.
The scenario was a friend of mine who was returning to work after being on JSA/B for some time. They went in to the Social Welfare to sign off, and asked if there was anyway of continuing payments until they got their first pay-check - the time period was just over five weeks I think, and they would pay it back once they got paid.
They were told by the Welfare Officer to go the the CWO, who paid them until their first pay-check from their new employer. They had to provide the CWO with a letter from their employer stating first payment date.
They were told they did not have to repay this money as it was part of an initiative to help get people back to work when they may not be able to otherwise afford it.

Oftentimes on here those worrying about how they will survive till the first monthly paycheque are advised to seek an Exceptional Needs payment from the Community Welfare Officer (now called Dept of Social Protection representatives). Don't think anyone has posted to say what happened when they tried that but encouraging to hear it worked out for your friend. It is a gap that certainly needs to be bridged officially.

    Hi Intifada,

I'm in the same situation as you were, I got offer a good job, start on the last day of Oct but they won't be me until the end of Nov. I have no savings and I need to pay rent and bills, food for the 4 weeks. I'm wondering did you get any help from the social welfare until you get your first paycheck? Thanks.

If you go into social welfare they run a scheme to pay you until your first pay check.
Its realatively unknown, but it you ask they should point you in the right direction.
