Can you not invent a doctor's appointment? Or say you've got to bring a relative to the hospital?

Thought of that but never had to invwnt one so not sure how these thibgs work out. Ive a hospital appointment monday (for which i have a day booked off), so mich be a bit much 2x in a week?

Not really, depending on what the first appointment is you can say that they wanted a fasting sample of your blood the first appointment and you had breakfast so they want to take bloods the second morning without you having ate. I'm not a fan of lying but no one should question that because plenty people including myself have made the mistake of eating before a fasting blood test plus the timing of a quick blood test would explain why it was only the morning.

Just don't do what someone I worked with did and claim blood tests but then showed up in short sleeves with clearly no puncture marks! :)

Can you request an earlier interview? Explain that you cannot get time off work....it also shows your new potential employer that you take your commitment to your current employer seriously and that you would apply the same attitude to them....hopefully. Failing that, I think it has to be the doctors appt....

Just remember when making things up to volunteer as little as detail as possible. The more elaborate your story the more it smells of bull. Also easy to get mixed up in your own details later. When lying make sure the story is simple and straight.

Just say you have to get back to the hospital for one more check. No details of cr@p sample or this or the other thing. You only get asked the next day 'how did the cr@p sample go' and then you have to make up more sh1t etcpp.

Interview is on Wed and my appointment at the hospital on Monday, not sure I can use it as an excuse.

At this point I'm very tempted to call in sick tomorrow and Wed morn. Really not liking this job and could do with some extra time to prepare.

I've the interview at 9 which was the earliest they could do. I'm not one for lying at all, and don't really want to do it but at the same time I can't exactly tell them why I need a morning off.

An Emergancy Dental appointment is usually good for something like this ... You'll have a terrible tooth ache tomorrow and your dentist has kindly agreed to see you first thing Wednesday morning ... When you come in on Wednesday tell them they sorted you out for the time being but you've to go back for a filling

As another poster said, keep the details to a minimum though to avoid being caught in a lie.

Funeral on Wednesday morning will work. A neighbour/Friends parent etc died and you have to go. Simple as that.

    Just be "sick" that day.

People get stressed about the littlest things.

Never like to lie about death- I'd be afraid I'd jinx myself.

To be honest the best thing to say is you slept in. It's simple, very hard for them to counter check and if you are making up the hours they can't complain too much.

And if you do call in sick, make sure you follow procedure -eg if the company rules state you must ring in to a supervisor, then dont send a text or get a colleague to say it. The biggest giveaway of a fake sick day is this. If someone is genuinely ill, they usually have no problem saying it directly.

Blood test is probably the most plausible, and related to your current investigations, so any elaboration is authentic. Just tell them on Tuesday that you have to repeat the tests because they got them wrong, and they've asked you to attend Wednesday to repeat them.

Most staff handbooks have set procedures and unpaid time off is only given at managers discretion for non-family members- you'd have to explain and maybe tie yourself up in knots lying. And the boss can always say you could pay your respects at the removal in the evening instead which most people do. And if they are suspicious, they might ask for a name to check RIP.ie, and then you are nabbed.

Then again he could pick a random local name from RIP.ie himself :P But I wouldn't advise this tact.

You could just say that the hospital called you back on Wednesday morning to check something they noticed on Monday.
