It's quite simple, mainstream inclusion has failed... the policy of the department is now to force parents into placing their child back into the special school system or to seek alternative education (unless there is a supported parallel unit attached to the regular school).

We were told by the SENO in our school that the only way we would get anymore SNA's was if the student was a severe case and needed round the clock physical support..... and that if such a student was to enroll in our school the SENO would recommend that they be best placed in a special school instead. Don't get me wrong though, the special schools can be more beneficial to the students needs rather than going down the academic route, but the writing is certainly on the wall from where I'm looking.

It's not only SNAs being sought. Take a look at http://voiceforteachersblog.wordpress.com/2014/09/20/jobbridge-whats-in-a-title/
    "IT & Principal s Assistant"
    "General School Assistant"
"Special Needs Assistant / Office Assistant"
    "Primary School Teacher (Mainstream Class)"
    "Sports Facilitator/School Assistant"

It is so frustrating though that children who would have qualified for resource hours a few years ago now get nothing. It seems to be that behavioural issues will be allocated hours before a child with a learning difficulty. Also the fact that one of the Principals openly says in that interview that he would not have a position to offer the intern on job bridge should mean that SNAs are not allowed to be used by this scheme. The future of teaching does not look bright with the amount of corners being cut.
