Have a water softner installed at the house but I have noticed over the last 2 years now lime killing at least 4 kettles, lime deposits on the toilet cistern and bowl, shower door and shower head clogged with lime and the doors caked in lime, I have had the guy who installed it out 2 times to service & check every thing and he says its fine but the evidence suggests other wise ....anyone recommend a decent chap in the meath area to have a look at it or are they all mates and would be reluctant ?

Thats a tough one. I take it your keeping up the salt levels in the chamber and there is no salt bridging going on and your flush sequence is at least every 2 days.

salt levels always there I tap the bottom every second day to stop the salt bridge and the system flushes every night at 3 am .......it feels to me that its not connected to the supply but the guy told me it is and its working fine ...the lime says otherwise

    How old is the softener?
If it's flushing out every night the resin might need to be changed

Depending on where you are in Meath, it's not unknown for the MCC to reduce water pressure overnight, and in that situation, the softener may not be cycling correctly, I've had issues in Ashbourne with this, and if they are on demand reduction, the only solution is to change the clock time so that it cycles when the pressure is "normal", but the problem then is that water drawn while it's recycling is not softened.

Unless your daily draw is very high, I'd question the need to run daily, that would imply a very significant water usage that would be above normal domestic usage, unless you have a large family who all insist on taking long showers.

We're the opposite end of the spectrum, there are only 2 of us here now, but we don't have issues with only recycling once a week.

Again, depending on the area of Meath you're in, it's possible that the resin has become contaminated by other chemicals in the water, from what we were told, the resin becomes coated, and the salt can't then perform correctly. Our resin is over 10 years old at this stage, the only issue we've had in that time was that the filter on the bottom of the column in the resin container broke, and it started leaking resin into the supply, we were lucky and caught it before it contaminated the entire system.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Surely during the last service/visit the guy would have seen contamination ?

Rang the guy (original installer) who was only here a month ago to come out on wednesday... as a kettle has gone & shower heads are starting to block still waiting for him to call back/confirm a visit ...only thing he said was I will bring a water hardness test ....

    A. isnt this the point of the softener and should have been done already as to ensure the right settings
    B. Is this guy just a grade A cowboy & should I even pay him
