Kazakhstan says SpongeBob SquarePants is a violent bully who corrupts children

    Like WTF?

I bet it was Patrick who swayed their decision. Never trust a pink blob or a water absorbing yellow sponge. I'm sure there are far more evil cartoon characters in the world.

Batman will be next. PC Brigade out in force.

    Mirror Online:

''TV cartoon favourite SpongeBob SquarePants is a violent bully who corrupts children’s minds, officials in Kazakhstan have ruled.

Its education ministry viewed several episodes and is now telling parents not to let their children watch the surreal animated show.

They say the cartoon character creates a culture of hooliganism, violence and bullying.

Zabira Orazalieva, chairman of the Committee for the Protection of Children’s Rights, said the cartoon character “has a negative impact of the minds of children”.

She said: We witnessed how SpongeBob regularly inflicts violence on others in his community and seems to enjoy what he does.

This has a detrimental effect on children.

“This shocking behaviour remains in the child’s mind and influences how they behave themselves.”

The grim-faced officials from the ministry stopped short of banning foreign TV channels which broadcasts SpongeBob as the cartoon is also shown on YouTube and other social media sites.

But Oraztalieva stressed the responsibility lay instead with parents.

She said: “Kazakh parents should not allow their children to watch the SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon.

“We witnessed how the cartoon SpongeBob regularly inflicts violence on the others in his community and seems to enjoy what he does. This has a detrimental effect on children.

“This sort of shocking behaviour remains in the child’s mind and influences how they behave themselves.

"It gives them the idea that behaviour like SpongeBob is something positive and to be encouraged.

They are expecting parents to parent their children? What sort of backwater country is it. If it was the first world they would ban it to protect the children.

Sure Spongebob is nothing compared to Hey Arnold. That was the show I grew up with, and it had some pretty adult centered stuff, that a kid wouldn't really get and even laugh at. I look at old clips today, and am amazed that that show was a kids show. Not that i'm complaining because it was still awesome.

The protagonist Arnold and the antagonist Helga. Made for great TV. :D

Aye, but just look at their upbringing. Arnold's parents died in a plane crash, so he is raised by his grandparents. His grandmother shows clear signs of dementia, yet it is an on running gag in the series.

Helga is no better. Her mother is clearly a depressive alcoholic, and her father is pretty short tempered and mean. Chances are her mother drinks because she is miserable of her marriage and possibly her life.

I'm just touching the surface of the stuff in the show. ;)

If Spongebob is a violent bully, then Tom and Jerry are amoral thrill-killers.

I like Spongebob, his biggest problem isn't being a bully, it's his tendency to retain water.

    How so? :D
“If you look through the steam rising up from the coal-powered train stacks,” she writes, “you realize that the pretty puffs of smoke are concealing some pretty twisted, anachronistic messages.”
What messages might these be? Well, Van Slyke finds the station director, the portly, mustachioed Sir Topham Hatt, “the Monopoly dictator of their funky little island,” and “a controlling autocrat” who bosses the trains around the island on his own personal errands, regardless of their personal schedules.

Never thought I'd hear Kazakhstan as part of the PC brigade.

    Damn right it corrupts children.
One episode I saw had Spongebob and Patrick camping around a fire. That's right, a fire under the sea.

In another episode, Spongebob was playing in the snow.

This blatant and disgusting disregard for the laws of physics is sure to corrupt the mind of any young child.
