Animated series in Irish.70s/80s.

Wonder if this rings any bells with anyone?Does anyone else recall an Irish language stop motion animated series that was on RTE in the late 70s or early 80s and set in a village.It was deffo not Gregory Granniog before anyone asks.It featured things like tractors and cars and I remember I found the animated human characters in it kind of freaky looking.I seem to vaguely remember a postman with a bicycle.

Thanks for the lead,I did a bit of googling and came across this page.I think it must have been Bailebeag allright, theres a still from it at the very bottom of the page and it looks very like the series I remembered.I was two in 1976 so it must have ran for a few years.It seems the same animator was responsible for the Tongue Twisters on Bosco.They used to seriously freak me out.:eek:

Found another still from Bailebeag and its deffo the same show.I remember the Guard in it now.I think the reason I found the puppets so creepy was that they looked like shop manequins and had little or no facial movement.

That page is after sending me off on a nostalgia trip now about the other shows listed.Fahertys Garden and that weird purple crow.It was obvious to me even at the time that Faherty looked like a slightly rubbish version of the dog from The Magic Roundabout.

I'd forgotten about Freddy Fox,its all coming back now.I diden't cop on at the time that Freddy was probably the type of fox to freguent certain bars.

Can anyone remember another series with stop motion animation that had the line "Dún an Doras,shut it tight!Keep my knitting safe at night"? It was about a king and queen I think in Celtic times.It almost certainly was made by Quinn Films too as it had very similar type animation.I think it might be one of the series listed here like [FONT=Arial,Helvetica][SIZE=-1] Muintir na Móna or [/SIZE][/FONT][FONT=Arial,Helvetica][SIZE=-1]Lug na Lacha[/SIZE][/FONT]

Only can think of Fado, Fado or Long, long ago, it might have been called. It was about Fionn and na Fianna. Had a bad guy called Balor in it, wore an eye patch.

RTE did a kids show called Fado Fado but that was recently,the one I remember was early 80s.

It could have been the same programme but at least a decade earlier than 1990 as stated here.I dont know if the Dun An Duras line was used in every episode but I remember it very clearly from one storyline where the female (Queen?) character was doing knitting and someone was interfering with it overnight.

Is this it by any chance?Its refered to here as Lug but its almost certainly Lug Na Lacha.I think this looks like it could be the one I was talking about with the "Dun An Doras" line as it seems to be set in Celtic times and the broadcast time (1981) fits.Does anyone else remember this?

Could it be the show mentioned here titled "Long Long Ago"?Its described as a stop motion series that ran on RTE from 1988 to 1990?I tried finding stills of it on the RTE archive to no avail.It sounds like the most likely canditate for your series.

Lug was the name. I remember watching it at the time. Autumn 1981. Just before the Angelus.

I can't recall that specific line. I thought that Lug lived in a cave in The Burren so no doors. . .

Lug, shown on RTE in 1981. All of the voices were done by Bosco presenters with Lug voiced by the late Philip Tyler. Episode up here on the RTE archive site.
