    Hi there,

I am looking at learning the German language and have never studied any German previously. I am generally poor at languages but I want to give this a proper go. Is there any good free online websites to teach the basics for me? Recommendations appreciated

    Try Duolingo.

Yeah duolingo is good to get you started, although a little frustrating and limited at times. I am currently doing a course of the Deutsche Welle website, it covers all levels from beginner (A1.1) to advanced (C2). It has helped me move up a level to B1.
