Serious question. What am I missing here? Are these adults actually fans of that 80s cartoon or is it something else? Thanks.

Yeh I don't get the My Little Pony thing. I understand people like different things and it's not always a "bandwagon" or "hipster" or "zany" just because I don't get it myself, but this... it's a children's toy. I know Lego is too but at least you can do stuff with Lego.
Is it perhaps an extension of the Japanese culture fetishisation thing? Like Hello Kitty?

There's a Late Late Show thread as well.

I can't see why there can't be a forum for My Little Pony, given there is a forum for Manchester Utd. and Liverpool FC. All equally ephemeral and obscure to non fans, but important for those who care.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,880 ✭✭✭Canis Lupus

My understanding was it's about people who are socially awkward being able to have a hobby where they can meet other like minded socially awkward people..

Kinda like being a goth or LARPing. Just arch an eyebrow quizically, shake your head and walk away. It's better for everyone involved.

Thanks for the replies guys. So they are adult genuine fans of the show! Who like to chat about it! Simple as that! Okeydokey :-)

I visited 4chan once and it ruined My Little Pony for me.

I just can't get my head around why people would watch a show about ponies when most have live ponies close by that they watch.

    *Shrug*

I don't get it, but honestly? Don't care what someone watches. You enjoy my little pony? Grand, each to their own.

I think there should be a forum dedicated to footing turf

In fairness, lego is very popular between adults. They are called AFOLSs. I got a good few lego sets myself at age 28.
As for my little pony, it's just plain wrong. Have you seen the Actual Bronies? They all always fit in to "cringe threads".

    What about the Sylvanian Family?

Some of them treat it like a religion or life changing experience and get a persecution complex when people make fun of them for it.

What do they expect when their adult males who are obsessed with a cartoon aimed at young girls?

See I have no problem with it at all, do what you want like. But when its people shoving it into my face, getting offended at the idea of it even being questioned, and the fact a lot of the bronies I've encountered are just arseholes anyway, it puts them a bad light. Persecution complex indeed. Then you could say that for anything of course, a few bad apples shouldn't ruin the orchard etc.

You know, just 'cos something is aimed at kids doesn't mean adults can't (or shouldn't) enjoy it. I watched the two Despicable Me movies there recently and really liked them, and I still need to get around to watching How To Train Your Dragon. I got a handful of Pixar movies on bluray too, Wall-E, Up, Monsters Inc.

Stuff aimed at children can be amazing

There's nowt so queer as folk. Anything consensual is cool in my book.

I get my rocks off on containers. Tupperware, wicker baskets, leatherette boxes.

Don't get me wrong. I completely agree. I love Pixar films and stuff but the whole brony thing is just on another level altogether.

It's all fun and games until you walk into your living room and find your roommate pulling the tool of himself to that stuff

Especially bad when you don't have a room mate.

Is it really on a whole other level? I mean, your average fan who just watches the show, not the weirdo fetish type folks in this thread seem to be zeroing in on.

Not sure how you can compare MLP to them really, even if Pixar films are aimed towards children, there is plenty of material in them that older people will enjoy/appreciate. When MLP is so clearly aimed towards children, it just seems odd.
