    Age = Between 18-20
    Parent has a provisional licence.

    Can i get a quote on my parents name and use that insurance cover on my own car without notifying the insurance company? I know it is illegal but i am suspecting some people are doing this and i dont know how people get really cheap quotes at the age.. :mad:

    But then your parent would be insured, not you?

    I don't think people do get really cheap quotes at that age. My first car was cheaper than the insurance for it back in the day, and it wasn't a complete crock.

    My parent has insurance already,
    i dont want insurance on my name but on my parents.
    Same insurance company,
    both have provisional licence.

    Q: Basically i want to drive my parents car in the mean time but in future can i use that cover on a car i will get for my own use? Do people do this?

    AFAIK your parent can only have one no claims bonus on the go at a time.

    Let's say they currently drive a Renault, and are using their no claim bonus on that. You can be added as a named driver to the Renault, and the premium will go up a bit by adding you.

    Later on you buy a Nissan. What you're trying to do is put the same parent as the holder of the insurance on that, and have you as a named driver there.
    First off, I think that's illegal, and insurance companies would be looking out for that sort of thing. Secondly, your parent won't get a no claim bonus on the Nissan, because it's already being used on the Renault. So the insurance on the Nissan will still be sky high, and then higher again when you're added. You might end up saving €30 or €40 (wild guess) by doing that, but you'd be screwed if anything happened.

    OP, what you are talking about is called fronting and it is illegal. There is no such thing as cheap car insurance for someone that young.

    Are you saying that you want to insure a parent with a provisional licence and you with provisional licence? Can't see an insurance company being keen on that, no obvious accompanying driver in that scenario.

    In which case you may as well drive no with insurance - if you have an accident and you're driving then any claim you make will be void as you're not insured to drive. Best doing things the legal way and start getting some no claims in your own name
