Dublin-Holyhead Ferry question

I have to travel to the Uk next week and I'm bringing my car over.

I can't be sure what time I'll be able to get away at for various reasons, but just wondering
is it possible to roll up and get on the ferry without an advance booking and pay with card / cash there or is it like a booking a flight where you have to have booked it in advance?

I'm not sure I'll make the 2.10 sailing as I'll be cutting it fine and the later sailing after 5 is a bit late for me so I'm wary of booking the early ferry and then missing it and losing money.

So was just wondering if it's possible to travel if I get there in time without having pre-booked?

(That's assuming they have space(s) left aswell of course!)

If there is space they will let you on. If you book and choose the flex option (€10 extra), you can change times to suit.

Id go with the steana line flex option. I have turned up early or late at times and they have let me just drive on no issues. I did arrive once at Holyhead a few hours early on a 24 hours day trip fair and they just let me get on the earlier sailing no issues at all.

My flex option experiences have all been Irish Ferries, I guess it's not surprising that they have similar offerings.

The flex option allows transfers free so as long as there is space you will be accommodated. The cheapest fare (€10 less than the flex) is available right up to departure so there is little advantage either way.

At this time of year it is very unlikely that any sailing of either operator will be 100% full.
