Advice sought for new windows?

    Hi All,

Trying to make a decision on what type of new windows to get in our 1920's terrace house and what supplier to go with and was hoping to get some advice. Looking at PVC vs Danish made Aluclad - Look of Aluclad appeals to me but in our small enough house the cost is 20-45% dearer for similar U-values. What are the other important indicators I should be looking at and do people think its worth the extra investment on spec/lifespan alone? Noticed on the Rationel site it says their aluclad windows are ideally used in new builds and refurbs of post 1970's homes - is their a good reason they're not ideal for older homes?

Also, when choosing UPVC suppliers, in terms of U-value there is much of a muchness between them, yet price differs significantly between the Dublin based suppliers we've visited. To the (quite confused!) laymen, products look very similar. Anybody got experience of using any of them and any thoughts as to why them are so different in price? Recommendations or bad reviews welcome via PM. Have visited Rationel (for Aluclad), Branco, Fairco & Senator - same requests & measurements resulted in quotes that are €1600 from cheapest to dearest PVC suppliers.

Any advice/info is very much appreciated. Apologies for lots of questions!

    Cheers, Dara
