HSE Interview. What to expect?

    I've applied for a 'Hostel Supervisor' position within the HSE and I got my letter this morning about attending interview. I've never had an interview with the HSE before and my understanding (from what I read) is that they can be quite challenging. Has anybody got any idea on what I should expect at interview or maybe completed interview to a similar position?

    I'd appreciate any help.

    Thanks.

    It'll be a competency based interview with a specific focus on the specialty of the role. In your case I would presume specific focus on Customer Service, Conflict management and People management...

    Find questions online and practice your answers, use the STAR technique for formulating your responses..

    Hi it's really not too daunting at all to be honest. You know exactly what they are going to ask you as per the paperwork they have sent you. There will be a panel of three or 4 persons and in my case they were very nice. U will fly thru it literally. Interviews are timed and they will do their best to stick to that time frame so u need to get your point across quickly and efficiently, but the beauty is there are no surprises. Sit down go thru the questions and write down your answers. If u are prepared you will be fine. Good luck. I had a very positive experience. They want you to succeed at the end of the day otherwise they wouldn't have called you for interview!!

    Loads of resources out there on competency interviews. Use the STAR technique to give specific, clear examples from your career to show your skills and experience in each competency;

    Practice, practice, practice - film yourself doing sample answers and study your performance. Do a mock interview or two with an experienced competency interviewer. Consider paying for interview training.
