Rumours in Rag yesterday that DAWN are in discussion with Kildare Chilling.
Will this damage farmers? Should there be objections from farmers and farm organisations on competition grounds? Will competition authority stop another large processor taking over an independent?

I taught it was Dawn that were taking Kildare Chilling over. I think it will have an impact. They are one of the first always to flat price cattle. This leaves one less so called Independent processor. Less competition always mpacts. They have an agent that is very active in the marts locally, he also buys a lot to get slaughtered in Kildare. They were very good to take cows and were willing to take non QA cows. This is an important outlet for smaller dair/suckler who are not QA'ed.

of course it wil play an impact, but perhaps not as much as one thinks because it is already deflated anyway and all they ever need to do if they required cattle is very slightly incease price but no upsetting the applecart.
They would be a better than average buyer in my op.
