As long as he takes that totally annoying Brenda Donoghue wiith him, RTE might become worth listening to after Joe in the future

dont want to support that news rag...

    wheres he going?

I hope that's true. He's a very good wildlife presenter. Also, he seems like a decent enough person, so I wouldn't like to think he was being forced out to make way for Tubridy (who, incidentally, would be ideal for that timeslot).

Brendan O'Connor said about Derek giving a one word statement about his departure: "BYYYYYYEEEEEEEE"

Lazy journalism, saying he's had a daily show since 1995

Not quite, now! if it was Brenda Donoghue that was leaving that WOULD be great news, she was good in her day but no day should last more than 24hrs in some cases.:D

He's been getting moodier over the last few years... usually starting each show with a rant about something or other... But I think the recent BAI complaint that was upheld against him may also be on his mind...

But he gets 220k a year... 220k... how could you give up a job on that much money, he'd have to be crazy... Though I'm sure that being a single guy with no children and no other obvious "overheads", he probably had plenty of nuts stored up for Winter...

^I'm sort of proud of that wildlife metaphor.. Mooney's Metaphor..

Well lets be honest here; it's unlikely he'll get nothing for his new gig or that he'd leave his current one if he was going to end up in financial difficulties. If he gets only half the current salary but enjoys it more I'd say it's well worth it for quality of life if nothing else.

Yeah there certainly is that possibility.. Even when RTE stars do move roles, they still seem to hang on to their full remuneration.. I cant imagine anything like that happening in a private company. I think when Marion Finucane went from five days to two days, she got a fekn pay rise..

That'd be a case of out of the frying pan and into the fire - couldn't somebody persuade Mr.Tubridy to move ship to another station or another career?

BBC is the only option - Communicorp don't need him, nobody else here can afford him.

Tubridy continues to play the "I might go abroad" card that Gay Byrne used to frequently play when it came to contract renegotiations. The difference between Tubbs and Gaybo is that Gaybo never presented a high profile radio show which is haemorrhaging listeners, and the Late Late Show could be presented by Fred West and it would still get a large viewership. I'd love to see RTE calling his bluff. He isn't half the asset that he thinks he is.

Best news in a long time. good riddance to bad rubbish. 8 years of rubbish with louis walshs minions on speed dial. Now get rid of donoghue and the wildlife crew as well.

They said today that the reason he is off at the moment is cos of his bad back... He's been off for a good while over the last year or so with it... I'm not sure if that is another issue that is playing on his mind..

If they move Tubridy to that slot, I'll be furious... It will just go further to prove how RTE looks after their own... Shur they couldnt fire Sean Tubridy's grandson could they..

i presume he's off to UTV then?

a wildlife program there would be cheap as piss for them to produce.

Has he gone to check out the chap who's looking for the needle in a haystack? Seemed to be inordinately interested in him yesterday. Mind you, I turned it off then.
